There’s gold, and it’s haunting and haunting;
It’s luring me on as of old;
Yet it isn’t the gold that I’m wanting
So much as just finding the gold.
It’s the great, big, broad land ’way up yonder,
It’s the forests where silence has lease;
It’s the beauty that thrills me with wonder,
It’s the stillness that fills me with peace.
About a 100 people were involved in bringing the café together. We tried to be as integral as possible in the construction of the café. Some of the principles we followed are:
-The modern engeneering with R40 walls and R60 ceilings and triple pane windows was chosen to be as energy efficient as possible. All the lights in the café are LED lights.
-We used crowd sourcing by raising funds among friends and supporters. This allowed us to be more cost effective by avoiding high interest rates.
-We were supporting local businesses by buying all the materials at local supplier stores.
-We are using wood as a heat source to support local economy and use a carbon neutral energy source.
-Recycling as many materials as possible.
Here is a video I made about my first 10 years in Dawson, with my music and my art work. Slow beginnings with a definite acceleration towards the end!! The whole story in a whirlwind!!
